The Genetic Advisor will tell you which birds you are likely to breed from which
parents. Just select which mutations each parent displays or carries and press GO. The
program is still under construction, so please report any bugs. The final version will
include the full range of zebra finch mutations. The program runs very slowly if you
select more than 4 mutations - in some instances your browser may even hang - so keep the
number of mutations selected to 4 or less (5 are allowed, but not recommended).
The program assumes that every mutation is placed on its own gene, i.e. there are no linked mutations.
The program makes no judgement on whether or not a specific bird can exist in real life. For instance, it is unlikely that you will see a double factor Silver, as the silver mutation is believed to be associated with a lethal factor.
SF: Single factor (heterozygote dominant mutation)
DF: Double factor (homozygote dominant mutation)
/: Split for (the bird is heterozygote for every recessive mutation following the slash)
Agate
Recessive Silver (autosomal recessive) - could be the same as Isabel
Other rare mutations
Silver: also known as Pastel or Dominant Dilute.
Silver Fawn: also known as Dominant Cream.
Greycheeked Fawn: also known as Fawncheeked.
Isabel: is the normal Isabel, not the Isabel Fawn.
